Changing Emails and Auto-Responders

Hello internet,

A brief note from your friend Mike. I work for Automattic with support, and so I see a lot of auto-responders. Because of this, I start to see patterns in auto-responders, and what separates a ‘good’ auto-responder from a ‘bad’ auto-responder. A public service announcement:

If you’re leaving a job, and they’re going to put an auto-responder on your email, make sure the auto-responder includes three things:

  1. A clear statement that says ‘I don’t work here anymore’
  2. Your personal email address
  3. The email address and name of someone in the company to contact.

That’s it. It doesn’t need to be huge, just a couple sentences.
